What is Solo?
Solo (AKA Autocross) is a test of driving skill and the car's agility in which one car at a time is driven over a clearly defined course, the elapsed time and penalties for course deviations being the determining factor for awards. Most Solo events take place in large parking lots, with the course defined by orange pylons. Speeds are limited to 60 mph and the hazards to spectators and participants do not exceed those encountered in normal, legal highway driving.
The St. Louis Region's Solo program typically includes eight events per year, which will prove challenging both to the beginner and seasoned contender. These events are typically held at the Gateway International Raceway, although we are continuously looking for new locations.
Classes exist for cars ranging from the competitor's daily driver on street tires to purpose built racecars and everything in-between. Solo is a safer, less expensive way to get involved in racing, improve your driving skill and have fun on a budget.
